The Really Long Post That Covers Christmas, Verses, and a bunch of other stuff.

So, you girls may have noticed that we haven’t posted things in a long time… Yeah… Ever since we got on break, we’ve been neglecting this little blog of ours… So, without any more delay, we present:

The Really Long Post That Covers Christmas, Verses, and a bunch of other stuff.

Verse of the Week: 12/16/2012

Lamentations 3:22-27

“The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
 It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
 It is good for a man that he bear
the yoke in his youth.”

Verse of the Week: 12/23/12

Isaiah 9:6-7

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
 Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will do this.”

Christmas is such a wonderful holiday… But I often find myself caught up in all the music and the lights, and find myself forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. The lights and music aren’t bad, but I find it refreshing to read why Christmas happened, and why Christ came…

Here’s the CHRISTmas passage from Luke 2:

Luke 2:1-21

The Birth of Jesus Christ

2 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.This was the first registration when[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria. And all went to be registered, each to his own town. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed,[b] who was with child. And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels

And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. 10 And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” 13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”[c]

15 When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.”16 And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. 17 And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. 18 And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

21 And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

That’s the true meaning of Christmas. Christ came so that we might have fellowship with God. So that we will be saved from our sins. Because he loves us with love that is incorruptible, unfathomable, and everlasting. Like it says in John 3:16:

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Savior and King. The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, The Wonder Councilor. Amen.
