Guest Post: Be a Shining Light

This guest post was written by Micaela.

“One day at work, I walked in and noticed one of the fluorescent¬†lights was completely out. This made the area of the room by the door extremely dim and seemed to make the rest of the room darker as well. Suddenly, an often cheerful place was darkened.¬† Even though there was plenty of other light in the room, having even one light out affected the whole lighting of the room.

In Philippians 2, Paul writes,

Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.

~ Philippians 2:14-16 ~

Christians are to shine the light of Christ to the world, that they might see Him and desire Him.

How often do we really strive to shine Christ’s light to the world?

Do we even try to stand out and be different from the world around us?

Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.

~ 2 Corinthains6:17 ~

God wants us to be set apart from the rest of the world. He wants us to strive to be like Him, which is drastically different from the sin-cursed, sin-glorifying world in which we live.

Shining as a bright light in a crooked and perverse generation may seem impossible, uncool, unfulfilling, or even boring.

But it is what Christ has called us to do.

That light being out at work changed the atmosphere of the entire room. Had that light been on, it would have changed everything.

Be a shining light.

Don’t hide, don’t hold back.

Guest post by Micaela .

Micaela is a lovely young lady who posts at Everyday Encouragements. ( Her blog is awesome. ūüôā

Thank you so much, Micaela! ūüėÄ

Melody posted this a while back, and I though I’d post it here because the Fighter Verses are worth mentioning and people need to know about them.

Thanks, Melody. ūüôā

Mercy Song

I thought I’d share something tonight that has been a valuable tool for months now. Fighter Verses. (see their website below) {and this is not an advertisement}

At my house, we have a family Bible time every morning around eight, in which we pray, and memorize catechism and Bible verses. Although we have gone with Fighter Verses for years now, my dad informed us that there was a Fighter Verse app (he knows these things). It turns out that included with the app are Fighter Verse songs. (they are also on the website)

Songs. ūüôā

If something is put to music, my whole family, even the three year old, can memorize it pretty easily. These songs have opened up a whole new world for me since January.  They have made Scripture memorization so much easier for me and my family. I can now recite or sing two whole Psalms!

The Really Long Post That Covers Christmas, Verses, and a bunch of other stuff.

So, you girls may have noticed that we haven’t posted things in a¬†long time… Yeah… Ever since we got on break, we’ve been neglecting this little blog of ours… So, without any more delay, we present:

The Really Long Post That Covers Christmas, Verses, and a bunch of other stuff.

Verse of the Week: 12/16/2012

Lamentations 3:22-27

“The steadfast love of the¬†Lord¬†never ceases;
his mercies never come to an end;
 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness.

The Lord is good to those who wait for him,
to the soul who seeks him.
It is good that one should wait quietly
for the salvation of the Lord.
It is good for a man that he bear
the yoke¬†in his youth.”

Verse of the Week: 12/23/12

Isaiah 9:6-7

“For to us a child is born,
to us a son is given;
and the government shall be upon his shoulder,
and his name shall be called
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Of the increase of his government and of peace
there will be no end,
on the throne of David and over his kingdom,
to establish it and to uphold it
with justice and with righteousness
from this time forth and forevermore.
The zeal of the¬†Lord¬†of hosts will do this.”

Christmas is such a wonderful holiday… But I often find myself caught up in all the music and the lights, and find myself forgetting the true meaning of Christmas. The lights and music aren’t bad, but I find it refreshing to read why Christmas happened, and why Christ came…

Here’s the CHRISTmas passage from Luke 2:

Luke 2:1-21

The Birth of Jesus Christ

2 In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.2 This was the first registration when[a] Quirinius was governor of Syria. 3 And all went to be registered, each to his own town. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the town of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed,[b] who was with child. 6 And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

The Shepherds and the Angels

8¬†And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.¬†9¬†And an angel of the Lord¬†appeared to them, and¬†the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear.¬†10¬†And the angel said to them, ‚ÄúFear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all¬†the people.¬†11¬†For¬†unto you is born this day in¬†the city of David¬†a Savior, who is¬†Christ¬†the Lord.¬†12¬†And¬†this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby¬†wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.‚Ä̬†13¬†And suddenly there was with the angel¬†a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,

14 “Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth¬†peace¬†among those with whom he is pleased!‚ÄĚ[c]

15¬†When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, ‚ÄúLet us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.‚ÄĚ16¬†And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby¬†lying in a manger.¬†17¬†And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child.¬†18¬†And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them.¬†19¬†But¬†Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart.¬†20¬†And the shepherds returned,¬†glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

21 And at the end of eight days, when he was circumcised, he was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.

That’s the true meaning of Christmas. Christ came so that we might have fellowship with God. So that we will be saved from our sins. Because he¬†loves us with love that is incorruptible, unfathomable, and everlasting. Like it says in John 3:16:

“For¬†God so loved¬†the world,¬†that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”

Eternal life in Christ Jesus, our Savior and King. The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace, The Wonder Councilor. Amen.

I’d like to share a song with you girls that I think you’ll like and find comforting. It’s by Jars of Clay.

All My Tears, by Jars of Clay
“When I go, don’t cry for me
In my Father’s arms I’ll be
The wounds this world left on my soul
Will all be healed and I’ll be whole.
Sun and moon will be replaced
With the light of Jesus’ face
And I will not be ashamed
For my Savior knows my name.
It don’t matter where you bury me,
I’ll be home and I’ll be free.
It don’t matter where I lay,
All my tears be washed away.
Gold and silver blind the eye
Temporary riches lie
Come and eat from heaven’s store,
Come and drink, and thirst no more
It don’t matter where you bury me
I’ll be home and I’ll be free
It don’t matter where I lay
All my tears be washed away
So, weep not for me my friends,
When my time below does end
For my life belongs to Him
Who will raise the dead again.
It don’t matter where you bury me,
I’ll be home and I’ll be free.
It don’t matter where I lay,
All my tears be washed away.”
